Fashion On the Field

Enjoy your Race Day to the fullest - enter our Fashions On the Field

While many attend the annual Seppelt Salinger Great Western Cup for the horses, a large number of racegoers pay more attention to what is happening off the track.
Fashions on the Field is always a major draw card at the Great Western Recreation Reserve and this year will be no different.
Those who dress to impress on Saturday, January 21 will not only be given the opportunity to showcase their style in front of a large crowd, but the best dressed will also be rewarded for their efforts.
This year's ladies' fashion competition is sponsored by Brian Hancock's Stawell Amcal Pharmacy and Rumba Clothing, with the Lady of the Day to receive an Amcal gift basket worth $250 and a Rumba voucher valued at $150.
The runner up will receive a $150 Amcal gift basket a $50 Rumba voucher.
With the popularity of men's fashion on the rise, the Great Western Cup has introduced a competition for the blokes, with the best dressed man to receive a $100 voucher from Foster's Mensland and an Amcal basket valued at $100.
All winners will receive a bottle of Seppelt Salinger sparkling wine and the Lady of the Day will receive two champagne flutes.
Entrants can register on the day, using the registration form in the race book.
Registrations will take place between 1pm and 2pm in the fashions area and the competition will begin at 2.15pm. It will be judged by a guest judge from Melbourne.
Entrants may want to consider some of the following tips when preparing for a Fashions on the Field competition:
For the ladies
* Headwear is a must and you should co-ordinate your hat or fascinator with your shoes and handbag. These are the three key accessories the judges will scrutinise most, apart from your outfit.
* Dress to suit your body shape, as not all the latest trends suit all body types.
* Make sure you dress for the weather. If it's going to be a cool day make sure you take a jacket. Judges do take into consideration the weather conditions and whether you are dressed appropriately for the day.
* Grooming is important. Hair should be sleek and nails neat.
* Shoes are an important part of your outfit. Strappy stilettos or peep toes usually fit the bill in spring and summer, while pumps or closed toe shoes are required for autumn and winter.
* A day at the races should be a classy affair, so ensure your dress is of an appropriate length - save your mini skirts for the night club.
For the men
* A quality suit is a necessity and should be well-fitted.
* If you want to stand out from the crowd, maximize on your accessories, for example a hat, cufflinks, gloves, pocket-handkerchief, belt, tie, sunglasses and a flower in your buttonhole. Pay attention to detail and of course, make sure they all complement each other.
